About faithfullness of photography - James Agee

이전에 언급했던 문제, 렌즈를 통해 기록되어진 사진은 과연 진실일까에대한 하나의 근거를 들 수 있겠다. 카메라는 기계일 뿐이며 대상을 그대로 담는 역할만 하지만, 사진가의 의도 혹은 출판이나 전시같은 방법으로 공개될 경우에 그 의도에 따라 왜곡될 수도있다는 점을 얘기하면서 반면에 사진가의 대상에 대한 주관적 이해 똑는 해석이 사진의 가치를 주게된다는 점 또한 언급하고있다. 

이 글을 쓴 시점이 66년이므로 디지털 사진이 나오기 훨씬 전의 논의인데, 이미지를 자유자재로 '변형' 할 수 있는 지금의 디지털 사진에서도 충분히 타당성을 갖는 말이라고 생각한다.

이 블로그에 보면 대한민국 사진 대전에서 수상한 작품들이라는데, 정말 수상한 작품이라고 할 수 있을까 싶은 사진들이 수상을 한 것에 정말 의아해하지 않을 수 없다. 대한 민국 사진 대전의 포토샵 작업 수준마저도 상상이하인 이미지들에 경악하게된다. 포토샵을 배운 학생들이 숙제하고나서 낸 사진이 아닐가 까하는 생각을 해볼뿐...

사진가의 진정성과 양심에 근거하지 않은 이미지들은 사진이라고 할 수 없을 것이다.
